Prelim Reflection

During the prelim period, I gained valuable insights into various aspects of information security and cybersecurity. I learned about the importance of taking notes, being attentive, listening, and continually expanding my knowledge. I discovered that information security involves protecting data, and it is based on pillars such as authenticity, confidentiality, integrity, availability, and non-repudiation. I also learned about traditional and improved information controls, such as intrusion detection and prevention systems, and the concept of critical assets.

Topics on cyberattacks like IoT hacking were discussed, which highlights the vulnerabilities of internet-connected devices and the risks of unauthorized access. Phishing scams and website spoofing were discussed, exposing the common tactics cybercriminals use to deceive and exploit individuals. I also gained an understanding of different types of malware, including trojan horses, viruses, spyware, and ransomware, and the devastating consequences they can have.

In conclusion, the prelim period provided me with a deeper understanding of the complex world of information security and the need for proactive measures to protect against threats.
